Why are many of the domains registered in the USA?
Many, if not all, of the domains have their region listed as USA. This is because the certification authority is based in the USA. However, this does not mean that the data is constantly transferred to the USA. The data from Craftnote (Firestore etc.) is used and stored by services that are located in a German region.
What does the asterisk (*) mean for some domains?
The asterisk (*) is a placeholder symbol, which means that we include all subdomains of the listed domain as well. This is a simplified and more pragmatic approach to summarise different queries.
What does ‘whitelisting’ even mean?
‘Whitelisting’ refers to the addition of certain domains or IP addresses to a so-called whitelist, also known as a whitelist.
The whitelist is a list of resources that are classified as secure and trustworthy. If a resource (such as a domain or IP address) is on the whitelist, this means that it has been verified as legitimate and is therefore not blocked by security measures such as firewalls.
Whitelisting is the counterpart to blacklisting, where potentially threatening resources are collected on a negative list (blacklist). While blacklisting allows everything that is not explicitly on the list, whitelisting only allows access to resources that are explicitly on the list.
In practice, whitelisting is often used in areas such as network security and spam filtering. It offers a very high level of security, as only the resources entered in the whitelist can be used.
How can I check for myself whether Craftnote works in my network?
We provide you a connection check under the following link:
https://app.mycraftnote.de/connectivity
At best, all connections will be displayed as GREEN:
If one or more connections are marked RED, this is an indication that the connection(s) to various services are not available. In this case, please check whether the above-mentioned domains are enabled in your network and no other restrictions in your network prevent the use of Craftnote.
